Reducing the Impact of Serrated Tussock
This project aims to build on our 2009-10 partnership project with the Central West CMA which focused on reducing the impact of Serrated Tussock in the Piambong area specifically.
This project will work with more farmers in the Piambong area, to raise awareness of Serrated Tussock, and provide follow up support to existing participating landholders. The project will also look to extend to other areas around Mudgee where farmers are just starting to see a few Serrated Tussock plants.
A series of informal, locality-based field days will provide a forum for landholders to share what seems to be working, what’s not, and learn about different groundcover management practices.
Following these field days, interested landholders can take part in paddock vegetation surveys to map out the density and distribution of any serrated tussock on their properties along with the dominant ‘other’ vegetation species that are providing the main competition against ST seedling recruitment.
Participating landholders will also have the opportunity for assistance with chemical control which this project will coordinate with a spraying contractor.
